Comfort Zones

Comfort zones are pretty dangerous areas to be in because outside of them are all our fears, the fears that we have not yet challenged.

I worked in a factory for about twelve years and speaking from experience it is very easy to fall into a trap of  being too relaxed, complacent and shut off from our real strengths.

What have you done to challenge your comfort zones?

I used to fear making a total fool of myself so I knew I needed to face it head on. While working in the factory I would deliberately find out all the things that my work mates would find unfair about their jobs and would pluck up the courage to make some time to go and speak to the boss about them asking him to consider making changes to improve conditions. I realised then that it does not matter what position you are in life your comfort zones are your personal comfort zones and most people do not like them to be interrupted.

The other thing I did was to book a few sessions in a recording studio to record a few songs that I have always wanted to be able to sing and record professionally. So I went ahead and did it one of which I uploaded to Youtube quite a while back. It’s a remake of Bill Whither’s song, Lean on me.  The other song I wrote the lyrics to myself and sung it too. It is called, I’m your guy and plucked up the courage to have it available as an mp3 download in Amazon, iTunes and a few more online music stores.

So besides loving music why did I do that all of a sudden? I wanted to challenge myself and came to the conclusion that if I could pluck up enough courage to walk into a recording studio and have a song recorded surely I can do a lot of other things too.
