Genuinely Pretend Comments

by wasim on February 5, 2010

Genuinely pretend commentsI recently noticed on some blogs that comments are being left not because the reader wanted to learn anything or join in the conversation but because they wanted to leave their link tracking back to their own blog.

Every blog post has a comment form, that is if the blogger has not intentionally turned them off (can’t imagine why this would be done anyway), that the reader can fill in.

In that form is mostly an option to fill in the website details too. Well it looks to me as though bloggers are ‘playing a  game’ rather than genuinly interacting. The reason why I say it looks as though  is because some visitors never seem to return to ever respond again almost as if they are jumping from blog to blog leaving hundreds of pointless comments just for people to come back to their blog. These comments look genuin but they are, what like to call them, genuinely pretend comments. I’ll give you an example. What’s the point in writing a comment on a blog that reads, ‘cool’ or ‘I’ll be visiting your blog again’ or ‘I’ve learned alot.’ Well so what is my answer to these type of responses. I mean atleast leave some constructive reply or criticism, for or against the subject matter.

Are there any advantages to this?

I don’t think there could be any advantages to leaving comments like this. People would eventually spot you as the person who leaves pointless comments. If I write a post I would want my readers to leave comments that challenge why I think certain things to be true or try proving me wrong in what I have written.

I have a plugin for wordpress called AKISMET that counts all the spam comments to my blog. So far there are over 300 of them and alot of them are ridulous comments, a few of which I mentioned above.

What are your thoughts on everything I have discussed? Can you spot what responses are genuine?
